I’ve received literally thousands of emails from fans, some pointing out things I got wrong. A few were intentional on my part, but others I admit I just missed.
What are the most called-out by fans?
1: Humor. There’s probably more in The Survivor than the entire series combined—a fact that was first pointed out by the amazing audiobook reader, George Guidall. Completely unintentional on my part. I’ve made a conscious effort to dial back the laughs in the follow up.
2: I started the book with action. It’s interesting that Vince, one of the greatest action writers in history, never started his books that way. I meant to change this—an example of my style creeping in. Fortunately, it didn’t seem to bother fans.
3: Anna Reilly. Notice anything different? It always drove me nuts that Vince spelled her name Rielly. I always chalked it up to his dyslexia and snuck in a fix.
4: The Japanese surrendered in 1945, not 1944! You can’t believe how much grief I’ve taken over that typo. For a few weeks, I thought I might have to move out of the country and never show my face again…
Of course, there are more subtle differences between my writing and Vince’s but they don’t seem to be affecting anyone’s enjoyment of the book.
